Korea to Develop a Standard WIPI Platform for Telematics Devices
August 24, 2005
Korea officially adopted the WIPI (Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability) standard mobile communications in April 2005; now the country plans to adapt telematics terminals to the various mobile content delivered through WIPI mobile phones. In the future, mobile phones that employ the WIPI standard will be able to connect to vehicle telematics terminals using Window CE, QNX, Linux, and OSGi operating systems. Suppliers such as Samsung, SK Telecom, and Hyundai Motor will set up the TEP Forum (Telematics Extend Platform Forum) for developing a standard WIPI platform, marking an official launch of telematics platform standardization in Korea.
